Dr. Jay D. Kim attended University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for his undergraduate study in biopsychology and cognitive science, and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree from the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, where he graduated summa cum laude. He then received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, and completed an internship in general surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Kim is an alumnus of New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center’s Department of Surgery-Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, where he completed his 6-year residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and also served as a chief resident for two years.

During his training he gained extensive experience in orthognathic and craniofacial surgery, facial trauma and maxillofacial reconstruction, TMJ surgery, maxillofacial pathology, obstructive sleep apnea, and dentoalveolar surgery including bone grafting and implantology. Dr. Kim is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill-Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, and also holds operating privileges at both Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City and Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Kim has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Pierre Fauchard Academy National Scholarship Award, New York Presbyterian CARE Act Award as well as Distinguished Housestaff Award, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Implantology Award, and American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Distinguished Student Award, etc. He is a member of numerous prestigious professional organizations including American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Dental Association, and American Medical Association.
